OUR STORY

Contrary to what Emily’s dad, Jon, might think, Emily and Oscar did not meet in Salsa class - though that would have been quite the love story! In reality, they met in true millennial fashion: on a dating app. Bumble, to be exact. Oscar’s profile featured a picture of him grinning atop Rattlesnake Ridge and the irresistible line, “looking for a Salsa parter”. Having taken one Salsa class in her life, Emily believed she was highly qualified Salsa partner material, and swiped right.

On their second date, Oscar took Emily Salsa dancing. Not only was he thoughtful and kind, he was also a great dancer. Emily had never been out-danced by a man before—and she found it sexy. Did all Latin men dance like this, or had she hit the jackpot? Time would tell.

As she embraced his passion for dance, Oscar ventured into her world. It turned out, Rattlesnake Ridge was the only hike Oscar had ever been on. Whether his interest in nature was genuine or just part of the typical Seattle "I hike and love dogs" dating persona wasn’t clear—naturally, Emily had to put him to the test. As spring turned to summer, she took him on various hikes in the Cascades, and to her pleasant surprise, he genuinely enjoyed them. He was so enthusiastic that he joined her and her friends on a five-day backpacking trip through the Enchantments, carrying more than his fair share of group gear and discovering Emily’s favorite kind of fun—Type II Fun: the kind that feels miserable in the moment but makes for great stories afterward.

From the dance floor to the trailhead, they quickly realized they could go anywhere and do anything together. Their connection had a unique synergy—one that has only deepened over time. From moving in together, navigating career changes, and making a cross-country move to New York City, to now officially tying the knot, every step has been an adventure. And now, exactly six years after their very first date on March 29th, they are overjoyed to celebrate their love with all of you.
